Chinese theater operators, directors and international theater insiders shared their opinions on the functions that theaters can play when it comes to creation, performances, education and publicity.
Taking France as an example, director Jean Bellorini explained that they are facing various difficulties such as an overreliance on classic works and having to work with independent actors. He noted, however, that French theaters have established a network for cooperation and that with government financial support they have begun seeking help from different partners.
Raising young people's interest in theaters was also a topic of discussion.
Israeli director and actor Ran Gwetta said that they will release a new plan to support young talents who will attempt to remake some classic works.
Chinese Hong Kong director Roy Szeto shared his thoughts on the ideal theater ecology.
"Creators and audiences must be equal. They are not just simply buying tickets and selling tickets, or watching performances and performing. It is necessary to have a space in which they can communicate and share," he said.
The director also told the Global Times that the number of medium-sized theaters is also very important to perfect a theater chain that can meet different needs.
"I really hope that we can have more theaters with a capacity of around 500 to 800 people," he said.
