Japanese actor and musician Tadanobu Asano expressed his gratitude to Chinese film director Cheng Er on Twitter Monday after he received some face masks sent by Cheng.

"Mr. Cheng Er, director of film The Wasted Times sent me masks! I am grateful for that as not only Japan but also China still has some uncertainties [amid the COVID-19 pandemic]. Thanks for the kindness of human beings. Thank you very much," Asano wrote on Twitter.

Asano once played a role in Cheng's The Wasted Times, and they have once again cooperated recently on Cheng's new movie Bulangman (Lit: not romantic), which stars Asano and Chinese actress Zhou Xun and is scheduled for May release.

Many Chinese netizens expressed high anticipation to see the results of the two's second cooperation.

"Chinese and Japanese film workers are cooperating to fight against the pandemic. Love does not have borders. I am looking forward to the day when we go to see the movie Bulangman," one Chinese netizen wrote on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
